A. Sherwood Florence, Jr., age 76, of Pelham, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8. He was born on March 24, 1943 in Atlanta.

Sherwood’s professional career spanned over 40 years of law enforcement service among Birmingham, Pelham, and Shelby County departments.

A member of Ballantrae Golf Club, Sherwood was an avid lover of the game of golf. He adored spending time with his three grandchildren, especially taking them to the firing range. Watching an Atlanta Braves game with his wife, Pat, and dog, Belle, was his favorite pastime.

Sherwood was predeceased by his parents, A.S. Florence, Sr., and Marie G. Florence.

Survivors include Sherwood’s loving wife of 52 years, Pat Florence; one daughter, Jennifer Florence Kulina (Scott); one son, Jeff Florence (Cindy); three grandchildren, Colleen, Jake, and Catherine; one brother, Mike Florence (Elaine); and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration of Sherwood Florence’s life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Chapel in Pelham, immediately followed by visitation at the funeral home.
