Commission approves 2-percent cost of living raise

COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Commission at its meeting Monday, Aug. 12, approved a 2-percent cost-of-living adjustment compensation for county employees.

“The Shelby County Commission strives to administer competitive compensation practices and provide a cost of living adjustment to the wages earned by full-time county employees,” read the resolution approved by the Commission. “Shelby County employees work diligently to efficiently use county resources and deliver timely services to the residents of our county.”

The raise applies to all employees who are classified as full-time from Aug. 13 through Sept. 11. It also applies to applicable elected officials and the Board of Registrars.

Those eligible will receive a raise equal to 2-percent of their annual rate of pay as of Sept. 13.

The raise is part of the compensation considerations for the period of Sept. 27 through Sept. 30, 2020.

The payment amount will be included in the regular payroll run on Sept. 27.

The Commission received at the meeting financial projections for the remainder of the 2018-19 fiscal year and an early look at the next fiscal year.

Total General Fund revenues are expected to be about $63.2 million for the current fiscal year, compared to $61.6 million for the previous fiscal year and budgeted amount of $59.7 million.

The two largest categories in the General Fund are both projected for higher revenue than the previous year and budgeted amounts: property tax-real property (projection of $15 million for the current fiscal year compared to about $14.4 million the previous year and budgeted amount of $14.6 million) and county sales and use tax (projection of $16.9 million for the current fiscal year compared to about $16.3 million the previous year and budgeted amount of $15.7 million).

In other business, the Commission:

  • Awarded the lowest bid received, in the amount of $237,073 and submitted by Wayne Davis Construction LLC, for the Property Tax Commission Building Renovation Project.
  • Approved a resolution authorizing County Manager Alex Dudchock to execute a sale of the Shelby West Corporate Park Site 16A property.
