FROM STAFF REPORTS

CALERA – Calera Main Street, a revitalization program with a focus on economic development and historic preservation, is hosting a family friendly event for safe trick-or-treating on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 5:30-7 p.m.

ChurchComingSoon.com is sponsoring the community event and expects approximately 20 trunks decked out for Halloween to be in attendance and handing out candy for all the local ghosts and goblins. Participating cars will be backed into the parking spaces along Main Street in downtown Calera so children can trunk to trunk without leaving the safety of the sidewalk. Local store owners will stay open with specials and candy as well.

Parking and food will be available behind the downtown shops, which can be easily accessed by 17th Avenue. Additional on-street parking is available along U.S. 31 as well.

“ChurchComingSoon.com is a new church launching in Calera with a missional mindset,” Pastor Ben Nelson said. “We believe in giving back to our community. We look forward to seeing families spending time together downtown and look forward to being a part of the growth of Calera’s Main Street.”

“I can’t wait to see all the kids, young and old, dressed up for our first Trunk or Treat,” said Jackie Batson, executive director of Calera Main Street. “And I look forward to this being just the beginning of many exciting events to come for our community.”
