NORTH SHELBY – Oak Mountain quarterback Evan Smith ran 65 yards for a touchdown with 3:20 left in the game to lift the Eagles to a 27-24 win over Pace (Florida) in their final game of the season.

Smith began the scoring as well as concluding it, with a 25-yard run with 1:38 remaining in the first quarter.

Pace took a 10-7 lead before Smith struck again, this time with a 15-yard pass to Noah Young to make the score 14-10 at halftime.

Judah Tait made it 21-10 in favor of OMHS (4-6 overall, 1-6 in region play) with a five-yard run with 8:36 left on the clock in the third quarter, but Pace fought back with a 12-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter and then a blocked punt that was recovered for a touchdown with 3:42 left in the game.

But seconds later, Smith’s run gave the Eagles the win.

Smith completed five passes in 10 attempts for 66 yards.

Tait (17 carries) and Smith (10 carries) each had 93 yards rushing.

Zach Paisley caught two passes for 39 yards.

Chase Schwender led the defense with nine tackles, Will Pfaffman had 7.5 tackles and Jacob Payne chipped in seven tackles.

Hogan Morton was good on all three of his point-after attempts.
