Faye Lacagnina was inducted into the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame on Aug. 18.

The ceremony was held at First Baptist Church in Montgomery.

The ceremony was followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.

Lacagnina was nominated by Marvin Copes, coordinator of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Lacagnina volunteers at the Birmingham VA Hospital and Shelby Baptist Medical Center, and recently started a support group for families and victims with mental health issues.

She is passionate in helping to stop the growing epidemic of elder abuse.

Lacagnina is an active member of Pelham First Baptist Church, where she serves her fellow senior class member by hosting a monthly luncheon.

She has coordinated multiple projects, including taking gifts to area nursing homes as well as the VA Hospital.

She routinely creates goody bags for homebound seniors and helps stock the free closet at Shelby Woods, which are independent living apartments for lower-income seniors.

Lacagnina has been recognized with numerous awards, including the RSVP Lifetime Presidential Service award and the Bronze Leader with the Commanders Club for support of disabled veterans.
