COLUMBIANA – Shelby County garbage services customers who auto-pay will need to set up a new account in order to avoid an interruption in their quarterly payments.

Chad Scroggins, Shelby County chief development officer, gave the Shelby County Commission an update on the transition of local services from WastePro to Republic Services at the Commission’s meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Those who had auto-pay arrangements with WastePro will need to set up the same service with Republic, Scroggins said.

These customers will receive mailed notices beginning the week of Nov. 18, Scroggins said, and information will also soon be available on the county’s website at ShelbyAL.com.

“If you’re receiving a bill every quarter, you’ll just continue to get the bill in the mail, it will just be from Republic instead of WastePro,” Scroggins said.

There are about 21,000 Shelby County accounts for waste service, Scroggins said, and many others are customers through local municipalities.

In other business, the Commission:

  • Approved committee appointments. The committee responsible for the areas of budget, finance and legal; development; government liaison and personnel; and county contract services will include Chairwoman Lindsey Allison, Robbie Hayes and Rick Shepherd.
