FROM STAFF REPORTS

PELHAM – As the holiday season approaches, Oak Mountain Mission Ministries, a non-profit agency located in Pelham, needs new toys and gifts for children and teens this Christmas for its annual “Christmas at the Mission.”

In addition, the Mission urgently needs winter coats, blankets and portable heaters for the families it serves now that the temperatures have dropped significantly.

“With temperatures plummeting, we’re trying to help families stay warm,” Director of Oak Mountain Mission Roddy Cooper said. “Blankets, portable heaters and winter coats are among the most requested items this time of year. Sadly, many families don’t have heat in their homes so they need essential items to keep themselves and their children warm.”

In addition to providing basic necessities such as food, clothing and household items, Oak Mountain Mission also works to spread joy and love at Christmas.

“Christmas at the Mission provides an opportunity for parents to select toys and gifts for their children,” Cooper said. “All families are screened and Shelby County parents of children, ages infant through high school, schedule appointments to select gifts. Last year, through the incredible support of churches, businesses and individuals, the Mission provided Christmas gifts for 450 children but the need is expected to grow. The greatest needs are for new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children and teens ages 1-17 and gift cards. With the generosity of others, we want to give the gift of hope and love for children and their parents this Christmas.”

Donations are tax deductible and may be brought to the Mission Monday-Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. from now until Thursday, Dec. 12.  Oak Mountain Mission is located at 2699 Pelham Parkway. To learn more about the Mission, visit Oakmtnmissions.com or call 205-685-5757.
