Two dead in North Shelby County murder-suicide (updated)

NORTH SHELBY – A shooting on Sunday, Nov. 17, at a residence off Brook Highland Parkway in North Shelby County that left two people dead has been deemed a murder-suicide.

Investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said determined that the shooting was the culmination of a domestic incident, according to a press release.

“The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office extends its sympathies to all of the families impacted by this tragic event, and we will work to support them and provide answers during this difficult time,” Sheriff John Samaniego said. “With this in mind, we are honoring their request to withhold the names of the deceased.”

Shelby County 911 received a call about an altercation at the residence in the 400 Block of Meadow Drive, which is off Brook Highland Parkway, from a third party at about 6:37 p.m. on Nov. 17, according to SCSO.

“Deputies responded to the area to investigate the situation and developed information indicating that at least one person was possibly armed with a gun inside the residence, and deputies were unable to make contact with the person,” read the release. “The area near the residence was secured, and members of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office multi-jurisdictional Tactical Response Unit and Crisis Negotiations Unit responded to assist. When deputies entered the residence, they discovered two people deceased.”

There is no reason to believe any additional suspects are at-large or posing a risk to the community, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
