Adventurer’s Coffee Co. gets warm welcome from Calera community

CALERA – Since its grand opening on Saturday, Nov. 2, the Calera community has embraced Adventurer’s Coffee Company with open arms.
Co-owner Taylor Neal said the reception from the public has been outstanding.
“The support we have received from the community is really above what we’d hoped for,” he said. “It has been wonderful.”
Adventurer’s Coffee Co. is located in a spacious 2,500 square foot building at 10874 Alabama 25, according to a news release from Calera Main Street, an independent nonprofit organization on a mission to revitalize Calera’s downtown business district through economic development and historic preservation. The café offers a variety of brewed coffees, espresso drinks and pastries.
The coffee shop is the dream of three friends who bonded over their love of fantasy games and literature, the news release stated. Neal and Kenny Spradlin met while working together in Montevallo in 2009. They along with some friends attended DragonCon that year in Atlanta. Three years later, at that same convention they met Andrew Wages and the three have been best friends ever since. The trio came up with the concept of Adventurer’s Coffee Co. over a bad cup of coffee. They were convinced they could do better, so they purchased a bag of green coffee beans and set out to master their first batch of roasted coffee made with a popcorn popper.
The friends put the plan together to open Adventurer’s Coffee Co. over a year ago, according to the news release.
“The name for us was easy, because we believe everyone longs for adventure,” Neal said. “Deep down we all have a wanderlust for an escape, even if it’s just for an hour or two and a good cup of coffee.”
Calera is the ideal place the business because of its small, hometown feel, Neal said.
“We’ve all been in and around Calera for most of our lives and we love the downtown area,” Neal said.
“There’s so much life in Calera and we want to be part of its revitalization,” Wages said.
“We are thrilled to finally be opening,” Spradlin added. “After all the planning, building and preparing we are excited to begin serving customers and see our dream become reality.”
Neal thanked Calera Main Street for its assistance with organizing the Nov. 2 grand opening event. He said representatives with the organization have been welcoming and supportive of the business.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Adventurer’s Coffee Co. and all their followers to Calera Main Street,” said Jackie Batson, executive director of Calera Main Street. “I have enjoyed getting to know Andrew, Taylor and Kenny and I look forward to having many lattes downtown while we plan for other wonderful shops, eateries, and events coming to Calera.”
The coffee shop’s hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The coffee shop is closed on Sundays.
