PELHAM – It was a strong night for several county wrestlers and teams on Tuesday, Dec. 3, as Helena, Oak Mountain, Pelham and Spain Park all competed with their varsity teams in the Over the Mountain Duals held at Pelham High School.

Spain Park and Oak Mountain both finished the night 2-0, while Helena went 1-1 and Pelham 0-2.

The most dominant performance came from the Eagles, who beat Pelham 78-0 and Vestavia Hills 63-15. Against the Panthers, Oak Mountain almost had a perfect score with the only weight class not featuring a perfect six points being the 152-pound weight class with a double forfeit.

Outside of that, Cambden Tipton, Kirk Smithermn, Austin Buird, Elijah Carlisto, Sullivan Tipton, Cole Burrough, Landon Holcomb and Caden Avans all had pins for the Eagles to post 48 of the team’s 78 points. The other weight classes were all forfeits in favor of Oak Mountain.

Against Vestavia Hills, they were challenged slightly more, but still not enough to keep them from pulling away.

Oak Mountain was able to get a pin in the first seven weight classes from Camden Tipton, Smitherman, Ryley Do-Bui, Buird, Carlisto, Sullivan Tipton and Burrough against the Rebels.

Vestavia’s only outright wins in the match came in the 170-pound (pin) and 220-pound (decision) weight classes.

Oak Mountain got three more pins from Holcomb, Harrison Kinsey and Andrew Lee, while Jacob Payne added a decision win.

Spain Park’s night was dominant as well with a 58-18 win over Pelham and a 64 18 showing against Vestavia Hills.

Pelham was only able to win three weight classes against the Jags with Nicholas Bamberg and Bryce Wanagat both picking up pins, while Walter Calvert got a forfeit victory.

Outside of that, it was all Spain Park. The Jags were led by Fischer Harrison, Jackson Mitchell, Carson Ray and Trent Thompson with pins, while Thomas Hardy added a major decision victory.

Brad Cummings, Jaxon Bast, Gage Hughes, Brandon Fortenberry and Will Conlon all won via forfeit.

Taking on Vestavia Hills, Granger Scarborough, Cummings, Mitchell, Conlon, Thompson, Fortenberry, Hughes and Bast all picked up pins for the Jaguars.

The Jags only lost three matches, two of which were pins and one of which was a forfeit.

Helena’s night featured a 50-25 loss to Hoover and a 48-36 victory over Thompson’s B team.

Against Hoover, the Huskies picked up a pin from Jack Golsow, while Michael Moran and Justin Yunke each picked up decision wins.

Then, against the Warriors, Joseph Bratina, Miguel McGrew, Braden Brown, Braeden Burch, Antonio Allums and Taylor McElroy all picked up pins.
