Hundreds show up for Alabaster’s Christmas parade

ALABASTER – The weather couldn’t have been any better on Saturday, Dec. 7, for the city of Alabaster’s Christmas parade. It was a welcomed change from last year when the parade was canceled because of bad weather.
Hundreds of area residents lined U.S. 31, eager to be entertained by this year’s parade, which included more than 120 participating groups and organizations. The theme was “a storybook Christmas,” and the Thompson Warriors’ Class 7A State Championship team kicked off the event as the grand marshals.
The parade route began at Ernest McCarty Ford on U.S. 31 before turning right onto Second Place Northwest, traveling down First Street Southwest and ending at the stop sign in front of Southbrook Village.
The city had a judging station set up on U.S. 31, and parade participants had a chance to conduct one-minute performances for the judges. After the parade, the judges awarded winners in the following categories: Best Holiday Spirit, Best Use of Theme, Best Walking Entry, Most Creative and Most Entertaining.
By category, the 2019 winners are:
-Best Use of Theme: Heart South Cardiovascular Group.
-Most Creative: Homeschool Dance Classes.
-Most Entertaining: Gym Time.
-Best Walking Entry: Shaggy Chic Pet Grooming and the trainers from Love Them, Train Them.
-Most Holiday Spirit: Albert L. Scott Library.
