PELHAM — The Alabama Youth Ballet Company will present a family favorite, Stevan Grebel’s “The Nutcracker” on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 22 at 2:30 p.m. at Pelham High School Theatre.

Get in the holiday spirit by enjoying a classical ballet production with friends and family. Come out and experience Stevan Grebel’s “Nutcracker” where Grebel will be performing as Drosselmeyer.

Grebel’s extensive work in ballet makes him a leader in classical ballet training in Alabama and throughout the world. Stevan Grebel’s “Nutcracker” offers the most advanced choreography of any non-professional “Nutcracker” production around.

Grebel has been performing “The Nutcracker” in Birmingham since 1971 through the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It was the first “Nutcracker” to be performed in the city of Birmingham. Alabama Youth Ballet Company is still carrying forward the tradition and using it to provide ballet performing opportunities to the youth of The Lovelady Center. AYBCo offers dance instruction to children with mothers affected by domestic violence. It offers them an outlet and an opportunity to interact with other children.

On Nov. 18, AYBCo held its annual “Passing of the Wig” ceremony at Pelham City Hall. Customarily, they have a member from Pelham City Council to participate in the production. This year, they unveiled the person who will depict Mother Ginger is Pelham Fire Chief Timothy Honeycut. Tickets for the performance range in price from $5-$15 and may be purchased online at Tututix.com/AYBCo and on their Facebook page under the “Book Now” tab.
