PELHAM – Mrs. Sachiko Green, fifth-grade teacher at Pelham Oaks Elementary School, was recently selected for the Curriculum Associates’ inaugural class of Extraordinary Educators.

Green

Green is just one of two Alabama teachers—and among a total of 31 teachers nationwide—to be selected for the program.

Green was selected for best-in-class use of the i-Ready and/or Ready program in her classroom, illustrating growth and achievement via formal assessments, and demonstrating classroom innovation and engagement practices for students.

Green spoke of how the Ready program has helped her students in the classroom using the individualization of the program.

“Ready math is diversified and ready math is very individualized and it meets the needs of our learners,” Green said. “A few years ago, my math partner and I struggled to find an individualized program, and when we were approached by this it met all our needs. If we have students who are English language learners, it supports their learning or special needs–it supports them or students who need enrichment. It’s very diverse and my class is very diverse. I have students at all levels of learning.”

Green also said it was an honor to be just one of two teachers chosen in the state.

“I am truly honored to be chosen as an Extraordinary Educator by Curriculum Associates,” Green said. “Curriculum Associates’ research-based differentiated instruction ensures every child is challenged to grow through the content. This personalized approach has allowed every one of my students to engage in rigorous instruction while supporting me to become a more effective educator.”

As part of the Extraordinary Educators program, Green will receive unique professional development opportunities and have access to a network of peers from around the country to collaborate, connect and learn from throughout the course of the year. Green and fellow program participants will also be invited to attend and present at the two-day Extraordinary Educators Leadership Summit in the summer of 2020.
