Eva Virginia Malcom Mitchell, age 91, of Calera, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, surrounded by her family.

She was a member at First Baptist Church of Shelby, a long-term active member of Shelby Iron Works Park in Shelby, and retired from Elastic Corporation of America in Columbiana with over 30 years of service.

The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at South Shelby Baptist. The funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. at the church with Bro. Gary Tankersly and Bro. Bob Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Gardens. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Virginia was a loving wife, devoted mother and proud “Grandma” of her grands, great grands and great, great grand.

Mrs. Mitchell is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, R.H. “Jack” Mitchell, and eldest son, Robert H. Mitchell Jr.

She is survived by her son, Billy Mitchell (Debbie); grandchildren, Trinity Mitchell, Tara Nash (Greg) and Tamara Hopson (Steven); great grandchildren, Dalton (fiancé, Bethany), Jessup and Jett Lodge, Evan (fiancé, Jessie) and Mitch Nash, Cayden Rachels and Eva Claire Hopson, Anna and Ben Hopson; great great grandbaby, Willow Grey Lodge; in laws, Charles (Gus), James, and Betty Mitchell and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her family and friends for their visits, cards, and phone calls along with the amazing staff at Southern Care New Beacon in Clanton and they extend a special thanks to her “at home” caregiver, Shelia Jackson. Each of you played a special part in making her days better.

In addition, we’d like to thank our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins so we can see her again one day.
