Pelham honors top teachers, support staff for 2019-20 school year

PELHAM – Some of Pelham’s top teachers and support faculty were honored with a reception for their hard work and dedication to the Pelham City School system for the 2019-20 school year on Monday, Jan. 27.

Pelham City Schools celebrated the Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year honorees as eight teachers in all were recognized during the Board of Education meeting inside the media center of Pelham Park Middle School.

Four teachers were designated as Teacher of the Year honorees and four teachers were designated as Support Person of the Year honorees from each school in the district. Of the eight, two individuals were also chosen as the District Elementary Teacher of the Year and the District Secondary Teacher of the Year.

The following teachers were recognized as Teacher of the Year honorees:

–Juan Vasquez of Pelham High School

–Meredith Collins of Pelham Park Middle School

–Regina Dickens of Pelham Ridge Elementary

–Jeri Feliciano of Pelham Oaks Elementary

The following employees were recognized as Support Person of the Year honorees:

–Dennis Case of Pelham High School

–Angela Blocker of Pelham Park Middle School

–Martee Forehand of Pelham Ridge Elementary School

–Teri Wiedeburg of Pelham Oaks Elementary School

“This is a special night where we get to celebrate some of the fabulous people that we have here in our school system,” Pelham City Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Coefield said. “This is a business about people and it takes special people to make schools great. Our support staff are great people who do great things at our schools and our teachers do a great job.”

The District Elementary Teacher of the Year was Feliciano who serves as a second and third grade ESL teacher at Pelham Oaks Elementary School. She’s currently in her 16th year in Pelham schools.

The District Secondary Teacher of the Year was Collins who has also been teaching for 16 years. She has spent much of her career in physical education before she pursued her science teaching certification. She has been at Pelham Park Middle School since 2017 where she’s a 7th grade life science teacher and track and field coach.
