Funeral services for Harold “Jerome” Turner, age 79, will be held Monday, Feb. 3, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Vincent. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the service time at the church.

Mr. Turner passed away Friday, Jan. 31.

Along with his parents, John Guy and Maggie Eunice Turner, he is also preceded in death by his daughter, Katrina “Katy” Turner; brothers, William Turner, Lloyd Turner and Tommy Turner; and sister, Mary Leona Arnold.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann Watlington Turner; daughter, Kelly Ann Wilson (Edward); sister, Ruby John Clinkscales; Emojean Henderson (Ron); grandchildren, Taylor Ann Wilson, Tori Alyssa Delmerico (Alec), Taryn Katrina Wilson, and Turner Edward Wilson.

Mr. Turner was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he was a great spiritual leader for his family. He loved attending his grandkids’ sporting events, watching Alabama football, and reading.

Mr. Turner was always a joyful man and remained positive throughout his life, including his seven and a half years of health adversities, giving glory to God. He was a long-time Macedonia North Baptist Church music minister, Sunday school teacher and deacon, spanning five decades, finally retiring in 2016.

He held numerous leadership positions and volunteer roles in a myriad of organizations throughout Shelby County and beyond, including Shelby Baptist Medical Center, ARC of Pell City, NAPUS, and Coosa Valley Academy. A long time singer, Jerome was counted on for numerous weddings, funerals and church events; he was an inspiration to many.

Flowers will be accepted, or donations in Mr. Turner’s honor may be made to Macedonia North Baptist Church or St. Vincent’s Hospice in Vestavia.
