PELHAM – The Shelby County Planning Commission approved two preliminary steps for new developments in the U.S. 280 area at its meeting on Monday, March 3.

First on the agenda was a preliminary plat approval request from Eddleman Residential LLC, which subdivides 9.49 acres into three lots, a common area and public right of way.

The development would be called The Village at Highland Lakes Phase 3, First Sector, and located adjacent to Regent Park on Highland Village Trail in the Highland Lakes Development.

The property is zoned SD (Special District).

Next on the agenda was a requested rezoning by South Oak Trust, owner of the property at 1 South Oak Drive off Dunnavant Valley Road.

The requested rezoning was from H-Z (Holding Zone) to A-R (Agricultural Residential), to develop a proposed 70-lot residential subdivision to be known as South Oak Subdivision.

Kristine Goddard, principal planner with Shelby County, said the next step for the rezoned property would be the development and submission of a master plan, which would then also require approval of the Planning Commission.

At the next Planning Commission meeting, which is scheduled for March 16, Bill Kinnebrew will assume the role of chairman. Also, Jay Gunther was elected as the new vice chairman.
