COLUMBIANA – An award-winning country music duo will headline Columbiana’s 2020 Liberty Day event in June.

Thompson Square is set to perform on Saturday, June 27, at 8 p.m. on the Shelby County High School football field.

“That’s a big deal for Columbiana,” Community Relations and Senior Center Director Ali Payne said. “We are planning for the 34th annual Liberty Day to be the best yet.”

Husband and wife Keifer and Shawna Thompson are the voices of Thompson Square, which is known for the No. 1 hit songs “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have You.”

The duo’s awards include ACM Vocal Duo of the Year in 2012 and 2013; CMA Vocal Duo of the Year in 2012; CMT Music Awards Duo Video of the Year in 2012; and two Grammy nominations, Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song for “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not.”

In June 2018, Thompson Square dropped their third studio album, Masterpiece, which they co-produced with Grammy award-winning producer Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift), Dann Huff (Keith Urban) and Ilya Toshinkiy.

Thompson Square’s national appearances include The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Conan, TODAY, CBS This Morning, Fox & Friends’ All-American Concert Series, The 96th Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting, Hallmark’s Home & Family, Hallmark’s MOVIEGUIDE Awards and CMA Awards.

They have toured with Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker.

The opening act for Thompson Square at Liberty Day will be Jobe Fortner at 6:30 p.m.

Liberty Day will start Friday, June 26, with music on Main Street, food trucks and the balloon man.

Former American Idol contestant Bailey Ingle will perform at 6 p.m., followed by the Lamont Landers Band, a Motown/soul group, at 8 p.m.

Saturday’s lineup includes a vintage car show, children’s activities, vendors, food trucks, the Hall of Memories presented by First Baptist Church Columbiana, a hotdog-eating contest sponsored by the Great American Hotdog Company, a parade and music during the day by Jada Cato and Winston Ramble.

Following Thompson Square’s performance, fireworks starting at about 9:30 p.m. will conclude the event.
