ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council approved multiple resolutions at its meeting on Monday, April 6, related to renovations projects at Abbey Wooley Park and Veterans Park.

The council entered into an agreement with Barge Design Solutions to provide design and bid services for the renovation at Abbey Wooley Park. The cost of those services will not exceed $30,700, according to the resolution.

The renovations at Abbey Wooley Park include upgrades to existing amenities including renovating and expanding the basketball court, walking paths, playground equipment and restroom and pavilion upgrades.

The council approved three resolutions related to the Veterans Park renovation project. The expansion of the park includes a new entrance sign, additional parking, more athletic fields, realigning the park entrance and adding turn lanes on Alabama 119.

The council also entered into an agreement with ATC Group Services for geotechnical engineering investigation needed for the Veterans Park project. The scope of services to be provided includes field exploration, borings and depths, underground utility clearance, boring layout and access, drilling and sampling, laboratory tests, and geotech engineering analyses and reporting.

The services will cost a total of $ 18,895. If additional borings are needed, ATC will charge $25 per foot, assuming the additional borings are drilled the same day or days as the original borings. An additional mobilization charge of $800 will be added if the drill rig has to mobilize back to the project site. All results and documentation will be provided to the city upon completion of the project.

The last two agreements related to Veterans Park are with Gonzalez-Strength and Associates. The first is in the amount of $14,785 for design services related to the Veterans Park entrance realignment project.

The park entrance will be moved to the perimeter of the property so that traffic is not traveling through the newly constructed athletic fields.

The firm will also provide preparation of front end documents and advertisement services, as well as prepare bid tabulations for the bidding of the Veteran’s Park entrance realignment project.

Furthermore, the agreement states that Gonzalez-Strength and Associates will provide periodic construction engineering and inspection personnel during construction phase of the project. The cost of these services will not exceed $33,000.
