SHELBY – Authorities are investigating a residential fire that left one person injured and two others dead.

On April 14 at about 12:30 a.m., Shelby County 911 received a report of a fire in the 100 block of Bethlehem Church Road in Shelby, according to a Shelby County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Deputies from the SCSO and members of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department and Kingdom Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, where they discovered a male victim outside the residence suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

He was transported by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment.

After further investigation, two female victims were found deceased inside the residence, according to the press release.

The Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation into the cause of the fire.

The preliminary investigation indicates the fire was not related to a criminal act.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this family and their friends as we are saddened by their loss,” Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego wrote in the release. “I want to thank the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department, the Kingdom Volunteer Fire Department, the Shelby County Coroner’s Office, Haynes Life Flight and the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office for all of the assistance received during this tragic incident.”
