15 test postitive for COVID-19 at Shelby Ridge

ALABASTER – A local long-term care facility reported 15 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 according to a press release on Saturday, April 18.

Select Rehab, Shelby Ridge in Alabaster reported that nine of its residents and six of its employees had tested positive for the virus after testing 140 of those living or working at the facility.

Shelby Ridge said they are taking precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus and are monitoring each person in the building throughout the day for symptoms.

“We continue to follow directives from the CDC and other state and federal authorities,” read the release. “All residents are monitored multiple times each day for symptoms. All staff members are screened before they begin their shift. We are using appropriate personal protective equipment and following infection control protocols.”

Right now, there are currently 4,888 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alabama with 268 cases in Shelby County. There have also been 303 cases featuring long-term care residents and 261 long-term care employees.

The Shelby Ridge release said they are grateful for a staff trying to keep the virus from spreading and everyone safe.

“We are grateful for our staff members who are working hard and providing compassionate care for each resident of Shelby Ridge,” the release read. “We will continue to keep our residents and family members informed and appreciate their understanding and patience.”

Shelby Ridge is the second long-term care facility in Shelby County with multiple confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus after 15 residents and seven employees tested positive at Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation.
