Alabaster to refund all fees paid for canceled spring sports

ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council on Monday, April 20, signed off on a resolution to refund the spring sports fees paid to Alabaster Parks and Recreation.

Alabaster Parks and Recreation made the decision to cancel all spring sports and notified participants of the cancellation on March 31. The anticipated cost to the city is about $95,000 to refund 100 percent of all registration fees.

Of that $95,000, about $71,000 are credit card refunds and about $24,000 will be given in the form of a check for participants who paid with cash or check.

In other business, the council:

-Amended the City Administrator job description. The resolution changes the name of the position to the Economic Development Officer. The finance director, IT director, library director, and court clerk/chief magistrate will report to the mayor; the job descriptions of such will be amended to reflect the change in reporting structure.

-Approved a resolution authorizing the Environmental Services Department to purchase budgeted items for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The total cost is $242,570.

-Approved a professional services agreement with Volkert Inc. in the amount of $24,502 to perform inspections and draft reports related to a permit though the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.

-Approved a resolution reappointing Derek Henderson to a five-year term in Place 4 on the Alabama Board of Education. The term expires June 2025.

-Approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of Municode Meeting Management Software and the associated annual software support for $6,400 annually.

-Adopted the Small Cell Tower Ordinance for the city of Alabaster.

-Approved a resolution merging the current Environmental Services Department with the Engineering and Building Services Department to create the Engineering, Building and Environmental Services Department under the direction of the Director of Engineering, Building and Environmental Services.
