Shelby County Schools has announced plans for graduation ceremonies for all seven of the district’s high schools.

In an email to the Senior Class of 2020, SCS Superintendent Dr. Lewis Brooks shared the current plan is for students to receive their diplomas at drive-thru graduation ceremonies to be held at each high school the week of June 15.

However, Brooks noted that a more traditional graduation ceremony will be offered if the governor’s health order is changed or lifted.

“I share in your disappointment that we are not offering a traditional ceremony at this time,” Brooks wrote in an email to the students and families. “COVID-19 has truly changed our approach and continues to be a moving target.

“Please take note that this is our current plan but bullet point number 4 leaves us the option to modify quickly if the governor’s health order changes on May 15,” Brooks continued. “Thank you for your patience and your support through this unprecedented time. Please stay safe and healthy.”

The schedule of exact dates and times for the drive-thru graduation ceremonies will be determined and communicated by the local high schools.

Commencement addresses from each school will be previously recorded and posted during the June 15 graduation week on the district’s YouTube Channel and other social media platforms.
