COLUMBIANA – Cornerstone Christian School seniors visited the school to pick up their caps and gowns, but school officials had something else in store for them.

The school had arranged the printing of personalized yard signs, which the students took home.

“Last week we let the seniors know that their cap and gowns had arrived and were ready for pick up,” CCS Administrative Assistant Christina Benz said. “When they came to the school we surprised them with their yard signs. We asked the students to take pictures of themselves with their yard sign and then we posted them on social media. The kids were very excited to have these surprise signs and more than happy to provide us with the pictures.”

The $600 needed for the signs came from the school’s Parent Teacher Fellowship and other sources.

Scott Owens with Owens Art printed the 32 signs.

School Director Margaret Pickett asked the seniors’ parents to help keep the signs a surprise.

Students picked up their caps and gowns from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, May 6 and 7. Someone was at the school during those times to allow the seniors to pick up their signs.

The students were asked to post pictures of themselves with the signs to social media, which the school then shared.

“This awesome effort was headed by senior parent Charlene Tucker,” Benz said. “Her assistance in getting this surprise pulled off is greatly appreciated.”
