ALABASTER – God Did It Ministries will provide 60,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need in the Alabaster area over the next six weeks.

God Did It was designated as a 501c(3) non-profit organization and thus eligible to receive grants, Spokesman Brandon Matthews said.

“The ultimate goal has been that when there are different grants available for resources, that he would be eligible to do it,” Matthews said about God Did It Founder Sanchez Tanniehill. “His heart is really just to provide for people.”

Its first grant will be for the food giveaway in partnership with Forestwood Farm, a produce wholesaler located in Birmingham.

Forestwood will provide the food through a U.S. Department of Agriculture program, and God Did It will distribute it, with giveaways planned for each Saturday starting May 23 through June 27.

From 8 a.m. until noon or however long supplies last, each person can pick up a 20-pound box of produce including items such as potatoes, onions, carrots, tomatoes, apples and oranges.

Because the produce will be fresh, the contents of the boxes and the number available each week could vary.

The pick-up locations are the future home of God Did It Ministries, at 632 Railroad Street in Alabaster (in front of the Alabaster Municipal Complex), and at Parnell Memorial Library, 277 Park Drive in Montevallo.

The food will be available to anyone in need, Matthews said.

“There is not any sort of requirement, any sort of paperwork that any family would have to produce,” he said. “This is going to be for anyone—any family that would like to come and pick up.”

Matthews said the God Did It team would continue to look for different grants to be able to serve Shelby County, with other efforts possibly focusing on meeting needs for young students.

“This is the first of many things that we will able to get done,” he said.
