ALABASTER – Four local churches are combining to host a night of prayer and unity in Alabaster.

The Come Together event will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, at Larry Simmons Stadium in Alabaster.

The event is open to all Shelby County residents, said Brandon Matthews, lead pastor at Cultivate Church.

The pastors who are leading the event come from different ethnic and denominational backgrounds, Matthews said.

“We all wanted to be part of the solution,” he said. “We’re coming together to talk and ask questions, and try to lead the way. A lot of people have questions and don’t know how to respond. We want to go to the Lord and give him room to give us direction.”

Cultivate Church is being joined by Unity Christian Center, Mind of Christ International and Freewill Ministries in hosting the event.

Pastors from each of the churches will speak and lead those in attendance in prayer, Matthews said.

Prayer will focus on unity, leadership at the national and local levels, and healing for those who have been hurt.

“We’ll pray for generational things that are passed down, and pray to see some change take place,” Matthews said. “The main thing will be to encourage people.”

There will also be worship through music, as praise team musicians from each of the churches will be on stage together.

Attendees are asked to observe social distancing guidelines.

A sound company will ensure the speakers and music can be heard throughout the stadium. Alabaster City Schools is allowing use of Larry Simmons Stadium (not the new Thompson High School football stadium), and restrooms will be open.

For those who would rather watch from their own homes, a livestream will be available through the churches’ Facebook pages.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

“We see a lot of the negative stuff that’s happening across the country,” Matthews said. “We’re just trying to offer some positive. We believe that if the hearts of people are going to change, we have to allow God to change our hearts.”
