HARPERSVILLE — Old Baker Farm has announced its Third Annual Summer Shindig will take place Saturday, Aug. 15 from 5-9 p.m.

Activities will include a sunflower maze, watermelon cutting, visits with animals, live music, fireworks, arts and crafts, food trucks and more.

“It’s a fun family event for a farm experience,” said Leah Harry, event organizer. “It doubled in size last year, and I think that was due to advertising and online media presence and that type of thing.”

Harry said the farm is working to implement special regulations for activities such as watermelon cutting, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Otherwise, most features such as the sunflower maze will be spread out so that social distancing can easily take place.

Harry is especially excited about the sunflower maze.

“It’s something different that we’ve never seen before,” she said.

Old Baker Farm is a fully operating family farm that has been in the family for more than 100 years. Harry is the daughter of owners Jerry and Pam Baker. On their 300-plus acres, the Bakers grow cotton, pumpkins, corn, soybeans and more.

Pam Baker indicated she is optimistic about this year’s Shindig.

“We feel like people will feel fairly safe outside on the farm,” she said. “I feel like people are ready to do something fun.”

Tickets are $10 at the gate (cash) or $12 in advance (card). Ticket giveaways will be held prior to the event.
