Ralph Battle, age 95, of Columbiana, passed away Saturday, June 13.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, June 16 at 11 a.m. at Pinelawn Gardens. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Ralph was born in Six Mile on March 14, 1925. He was raised in Montevallo and worked as a butcher. He served with the US Navy on the USS Ranger in World War II. He married Anne Dinkins on July 16, 1949 and moved to Columbiana. He worked at Hayes Aircraft Corporation from 1951 until he retired in 1990. After retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling to Pensacola to fish.

After the passing of his wife, whom he was married to for 48 years, he volunteered his time with Columbiana’s Meals on Wheels program. He logged 10,800 hours as a volunteer.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Dinkins Battle; his daughter, Deborah Battle Anderson; his grandson, Joseph Shane Goodwin; his parents, Louis and Beatrice Battle; his sisters, Vera Lewis Strickland and Elizabeth Ann Dunnaway; and his brothers, James, Ed, Russell, Henry (PD) and Jack Battle.

Mr. Battle is survived by his 4 daughters, Darlene Battle Carlisle, Jane Battle Potter (Dale), Jill Battle Kelley (Clegg), and Judy Battle Cantrell; son in law, Johnny Anderson; and one brother, John Mosley Battle. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The family would like to acknowledge Bill Nichols State Veterans Home and to thank them for the wonderful and loving care that he received for the last 20 months.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels/Senior Center in Columbiana or the Alzheimer Foundation.
