PELHAM — Whether you’re craving a hot slice of pizza, a cold glass of lemonade or a freshly sliced peach, you can find all three and a whole lot more this summer at Burnette Farms Market & Café.

Owner Mary Charles Burnette said Chilton County peaches are among the most sought-after items in the market.

“We’re right at the peak of the season now, and of course we make homemade ice cream here at our market and we use our peaches,” Burnette said.

Of course, that perfect-tasting tomato can be an elusive find, especially if you don’t know where to look. But Burnette is confident about the ones they sell, many of which are also Chilton County grown.

“We’ve got a good reputation for good tomatoes. You can find a good tasting tomato here,” she said.

The café offers several specialty lunch items, among them pizza—made possible by the new pizza oven at Burnette’s Café. You can get a Farmer’s Market Pizza topped with fresh veggies straight from the market. Pair that with a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade and top it all off with some homemade ice cream.

Other items sold at the café include meat and two-veggie plates (Sunday through Friday) and chicken tenders (pizza and chicken tenders are available Saturdays as well).

Market shoppers may also find specialty items such as Amish jams and jellies, fresh free range eggs, sauces, juices, ciders and fresh meat. Meat products—steak, ground beef, bacon and pork tenderloin—are sold as they become available.

“We will have more cooler and freezer space to be added during the next year,” Burnette hinted.

Produce boxes started trending during the COVID-19 pandemic, and their popularity has not wavered. Burnette Farms is still selling them for $25 per box on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Some have purchased produce boxes to donate to a family in need or to provide healthy meals for their families during the pandemic.

“We started doing that during the (pandemic), and it just really took off,” Burnette said. “Kids and families are eating things they didn’t know they liked.”

Burnette Farms Market & Café, 8551 Helena Rd., Pelham, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Café lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
