HELENA – Children got to dive into fun activities at Gospel Light Baptist Church when they hosted this year’s Vacation Bible School titled “Ocean Commotion: Diving into Noah’s Flood.”

The VBS was held for children in K4 through sixth grade and kicked off on Monday, June 22, lasting through Thursday, June 25.

According GLBC Children’s Church Leader Joy Wilkerson, the purpose of the VBS was to bring children together in “learning about the salvation that God offered to Noah then and the salvation he offers us today.”

Despite many spring and summer activities being canceled due to COVID-19, children were able to come together in a safe environment each day to socialize and take in important faith lessons through games, sermons, arts and crafts and other activities.

To further the ocean theme of the VBS in some of the activities children were divided into two teams, the Great White Sharks and the Killer Whales.

“This year’s competition between the Great White Sharks and the Killer Whales is off to a great start. The kids have been competing in outdoor games, team cheers, and penny offerings,” explained Wilkerson. “There is a special lesson time for the different age groups, a snack time and an exciting rally time.”

The VBS made a special focus on the story of Noah from the book of Genesis and how he was able to “stand, obey, trust, thank and fear God” during his story. These lessons were reinforced each day in a fun and engaging way through songs, lesson and activities.

Allowing children to return to normalcy and experience VBS in person was an important goal during the week. Wilkerson said that fostering a fun and safe learning environment for the children was incredibly important during this time.

“I love the excitement and energy that the children have, and I believe that children are the greatest treasures God has given to us. What better way to invest in the next generation than to introduce them to Jesus?” she asked.
