WILSONVILLE — A public hearing concerning groundwater contamination from a coal ash pond at the Ernest C. Gaston Steam Plant on Lay Lake is scheduled to take place Monday, July 6.

The hearing will be conducted at Wilsonville Baptist Church from 5-7 p.m., according to a Facebook announcement from Coosa Riverkeeper.

Alabama Power is hosting the meeting, which is required by law; however, concerned residents who plan to attend are asked to practice social distancing and follow recommended guidelines.

“Please only come if you’re comfortable doing so, are not immune-compromised or showing symptoms of coronavirus, and follow the latest CDC guidelines,” stated the Facebook post from Coosa Riverkeeper.
