Helena hosts fireworks show to celebrate Fourth of July

HELENA – While many events throughout the first part of the year were canceled due to COVID-19, Helena’s annual Independence Day celebration is a reminder of the town’s resilience and strength in the face of incredible odds.
The success of the event during such a tumultuous time is a reminder that despite the many obstacles that this year has thrown out, the people of Helena can still come together under a brilliant display of fireworks to celebrate this country and the freedom it provides.
“The fireworks show has been a great community event each year bringing everyone together,” said City Councilman and mayoral candidate Brian Puckett. “With everything that has gone on in the first six months of the year, this year’s celebration is more important than ever to celebrate our independence and strength in community.”
This year’s show was set to feature a big festival and celebration with vendors, food trucks and more for people in attendance to enjoy, but a few days before, the festival was canceled due to the recent spike in COVID-19 numbers.
But the fireworks display was still put on for residents and visitors alike to watch the night sky be lit up to celebrate the Fourth of July.
“2020 has been a challenging year,” said Helena City Council President Hewy Woodman. “All events are now viewed through the lens of public safety. We want to continue to celebrate our independence but in a safe way.”
The display, which was put on in Old Town Helena, reminded residents that despite the troubles that everyone is facing, the community is in it together.
