CHELSEA – Snider’s Discount Pharmacy in Chelsea is offering COVID-19 self-swab testing by appointment.

The pharmacy was selected to be a test site, allowing residents to conduct COVID-19 swab tests on themselves.

“It’s more or less a service to our community,” said pharmacy technician Justin Snider, whose father, Doug Snider, owns the pharmacy. “We’ve seen well over 100 people come out to get tests. It’s going really well.”

Those wishing to determine their eligibility for the test or to reserve a time slot may visit DoINeedACovid19Test.com and complete an application.

Upon arrival at the pharmacy, testing participants with an appointment should pull into a parking spot marked with a COVID-19 testing sign, call the pharmacy at (205) 678-3899 when they arrive and wait in their cars for further instructions.

After participants complete the self-administered nasal swab tests, the pharmacy will send the test kits to a lab.

Test results are sent back to the participants via the email addresses they provide on the application.

Most test results come back within three days, Snider said.

Appointments are available Monday-Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The self-swab testing at Snider’s Discount Pharmacy is made possible through a partnership between Health Mart pharmacies and eTrueNorth, an experienced testing provider contracted through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

As such, the testing is funded by the federal government and is free to eligible participants.

Snider said the pharmacy hopes to continue offering the self-swab testing through July and August.
