HELENA – As summer comes to a close many parents and youth in Helena are considering how to spend their free time. Luckily, despite the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, the city’s youth sports will still be moving forward and registering for the season aside from football.

Starting Sunday, July 26, parents could begin registering their children for T-ball, baseball and softball with online registration available through Sunday, Aug 23. Soccer registration already began as well and will last through Saturday, Aug 8.

Registration fees for the sports are $100 for T-ball, $120 for baseball and softball and $160 for soccer. There is a $10 discount for multiple children being enrolled after the oldest child’s registration is paid in full.

There are a variety of teams for each sport, and children will be assigned to the teams based on their age as of January 1, 2021 for soccer and softball, and April 30, 2021, for baseball and T-ball.

According to Director Bill Miller the league that governs youth football has decided not to move forward with their season due to COVID-19. However, “baseball, softball, and soccer are planned to move forward at this time.”

The announcement on football was made by the Jefferson-Shelby Youth Football League on Sunday, July 26, with the board voting 6-5 in favor of canceling the season, which impacted several cities across Shelby County, including Helena.

But the city was able to move forward with other sports this year with the proper safety measures in place. The Helena Parks and Recreation Department is asking that all registrations be completed on the department’s website before each sport’s deadline.
