ALABASTER – The Piney Woods Festival will return to the city of Alabaster in October with a variety of items and goods for local families to enjoy.

The third annual Piney Woods Festival will take place at the Albert L. Scott Library on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. and will feature crafts, vendors and a book sale.

“We are super excited,” Library Director Kim Roberts said. “It’s always a fun time to get everybody together and support some of our local artists but also just get everybody together and share some ideas.”

The event’s book sale will open early for the Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library on Friday before fully opening to the public on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will also continue into Sunday, Oct. 6 from 1-3 p.m. with fill-a-bag day where attendees can fill a bag of books for $6. The Piney Woods Festival’s book sale will take place in the library’s Nan Abbott Room.

“This (event) is a fundraiser for our building fund, so anything that people give is going straight into that building fund so that we can get new amenities for our library that we’re excited about potentially opening in 2027,” Roberts said.

The third annual Piney Woods Festival will feature 20 vendors with arts and crafts, baked goods, a bouncy house, a hair color and face painting station and food trucks, including Gumbo to Geaux and Frios Gourmet Pops. There will also be a raffle at the event for a stained glass picture that features a frame quote which was donated by a member of the Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library.

The local 501 (C) (3) nonprofit, KittyPup Rescue, will also be in attendance at the event with a selection of animal rescues for participants to choose from. KittyPup Rescue focuses on rescuing animals from shelters that are scheduled to be euthanized and looks to house them until they can find a permanent home.

During last year’s festival, the library’s new mascot, Bernie the great horned owl, made his debut appearance and will be returning this year to mingle and hand out candy to kids.

“We hope everybody comes out and supports local businesses and the library and our building plans,” Roberts said.
