NEW SITE – After seeing their lead slip away in the second quarter, the Vincent Yellow Jackets went into halftime knowing that they would need a response in the second half to beat the Horseshoe Bend Generals.

Vincent got just that, defeating Horseshoe Bend 51-37 on Friday, Jan. 24 at Horseshoe Bend High School thanks to a third-quarter rally.

The Jackets started the game in front as TK Smoot and Kinsley Perkins each scored multiple baskets to lead the offense. Their efforts helped Vincent outpace the Generals in the first quarter and take a 14-11 lead into the second quarter.

However, that offense completely dried up in the second quarter as the Jackets only managed to get one basket, a field goal from TK Smoot, in the entire quarter.

Horseshoe Bend only improved on its first-quarter scoring with 13 points in the second. That not only gave the Generals the lead after trailing by three at the end of the quarter, but it gave them a 24-11 lead at the halftime break.

Vincent got a big spark from three of its biggest scorers in the third quarter. MaKayla Perkins dropped 10 points in the third and Kinsley Perkins scored eight points while the pair went a combined 6-for-6 from the free throw line. KK McGinnis also added four points to her two from the first quarter.

The trio combined for 22 points to give the Jackets a commanding double-digit lead going into the third quarter after the team surrendered just six points in the third.

McGinnis took over in the fourth quarter with eight points to add to her total and get her in double figures. MaKayla and Kinsley Perkins and Taniya Robertson each added baskets down the stretch to put the finishing touches on the 14-point win.

MaKayla Perkins finished with a game-high 15 points while McGinnis and Kinsley Perkins each posted 14 points. In addition, Smoot scored seven points, all of which came in the first half.

Vincent improved to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in area play with the win. The Jackets will close out area play on Monday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. on the road at Ranburne.
