CHELSEA – The Chelsea High School Student Government Association named Chelsea City Councilmember Cody Sumners as an inductee to the 2025 Chelsea Hall of Fame class on Tuesday, Feb. 4 during a regularly scheduled City Council meeting at Chelsea City Hall.

The Chelsea High School SGA, under the leadership of Ryan Adams, made the announcement during the mayor’s report portion of the meeting, allowing fellow Councilmember Casey Morris to give the pleasing news to Sumners.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the current generation of high school students,” Sumners said. “Chelsea High School has come a long way since I graduated in 1993. I am extremely blessed to be a part of this community and to have this platform to be able to talk about and bring attention to important issues in our community.”

In high school, Sumners played baseball for the Hornets, and has served as the sponsor of the school’s wrestling club. In addition, he currently serves as the president of NAMI Shelby, which is an organization for those whose lives have been affected by mental illness.

Sumners commended Adams for what he has done with the SGA under his leadership.

“Coach Adams and the SGA have done a great job with this program,” Sumners said.

Adams mentioned that the SGA is still finalizing the list of inductees, but have already made some selections since they began the consideration process in January.

In other news, the Council approved a resolution authorizing the closure of its Archery Club bank account, which has been open for a significant period of time and is now being ended.
