COLUMBIANA – Those interested in acquiring their very own tree will have the opportunity to do so during the Columbiana Beautification Board’s third annual Arbor Day tree giveaway on Saturday, Feb. 15.
During the event, attendees can pick up a variety of bare root tree seedlings, including red maple, river birch, redbud, silky dogwood, persimmon, nuttall oak, bald cypress and American elm.
The trees will be available while supplies last from 9 a.m. to noon inside the Grande Hall at Old Mill Square in Columbiana. There may be a limit imposed on the number of saplings given to each family due to supply and demand.
“Come join us for our first official year as a Tree City member but our third annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway,” read an official release by the Columbiana Beatification Board. “We can’t wait to see you!”
Founded in 1976, Tree City USA is a partnership between the Arbor Day Foundation, the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Columbiana earned its recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements which consist of maintaining a tree board or department, having a tree care ordinance, dedicating an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
