Daniel Alford “Al” Crowson, Sr., of Birmingham, Alabama went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the age of 79. He was born August 30, 1945 in Bessemer, Alabama to Cleveland Crowson and Myrtle King Crowson.

Al was a 1963 graduate of Hueytown High School. He went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama in 1967. Later, he graduated from the Birmingham School of Law and became a founding partner of the law firm of Bachus, Crowson, Harris & Dempsey.

In 1988, Al was appointed to the Shelby County bench by Alabama Governor Guy Hunt. He served as the presiding Circuit Court Judge, 18th Circuit until he retired in 2005. He was able to practice on the bench with his son serving as a Supernumerary Judge until 2016. During his tenure, Al helped develop the community corrections program, juvenile and adult courts, and increased courthouse security. He also founded the Shelby County University of Alabama Alumni Chapter in 1992.

Over the years, Al loved to play basketball, tennis, and golf, in addition to going fishing with his friends and family. He also loved spending time at the family home in Mexico Beach, Florida.

Preceding Al in death is his son, Daniel “Danny” Alford Crowson, Jr.; his mother, Myrtle King Crowson; his father, Cleveland Crowson; his mother-in-law, Gladys Barger; and his father-in-law, JT Barger.

Left to cherish their memories of Al are his high school sweetheart and wife, Barbara Barger Crowson; their loving daughter, Renee’ Doss (Tim); daughter-in-law, Ashley Crowson; and three adored grandchildren, Matt Doss, Daniel Crowson Ill, and Lauren Crowson.

Al and Barbara were married for 59 years. Theirs was a perfect example of a Christian marriage with unconditional love for each other.

The Service of Celebration for Al’s Life began at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Pelham, Alabama. Burial, Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham, Alabama.

A memorial scholarship fund is being created by the Shelby County University of Alabama Alumni Chapter for Judge Daniel A. Crowson, Sr. Donations to the scholarship fund and/or flowers are welcome.
