MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo Bulldogs boys soccer program shined in the Copper Division of the Lakeshore Shootout, finishing as the runner-up in the tournament.

Montevallo finished the tournament without a loss, obtaining two wins and a draw in three games played. The Bulldogs played their first two games on Friday, Feb. 14 against Holy Family and Jasper, and faced Holy Spirit on Saturday, Feb. 15.

The first matchup against Holy Family kicked off at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The game was an offensive showcase for Montevallo, who won 10-0 in a definitive opening statement to the Lakeshore Shootout.

Alexis Lopez started his season off strong for the Bulldogs, scoring four goals in the game to lead his team to victory. The offense was prolific with Junior Alvarenga, Irving Choto, Gregory Catillo and Angel Munoz each scoring a goal for Montevallo.

After the Bulldogs dominant victory over the Tornadoes, they played the Jasper Vikings the same day at 7:00 p.m.

The contest was much closer for Montevallo than their opening drubbing, with neither team gaining an edge in a 2-2 draw. Lopez and Choto each continued their scoring ways with a goal to keep the Bulldogs in the game.

The Bulldogs final contest against the Holy Spirit Saints on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. was another win for Montevallo, this time coming by a 3-0 scoring margin.

Lopez and Choto were once again the only offense the Bulldogs needed, with Lopez obtaining a brace with two goals and Choto chipping in another score to close out Holy Spirit.

Head Coach Garrett Langer’s squad has plenty of positives to build on from the Lakeshore Shootout. Lopez was exceptional all tournament, scoring seven of Montevallo’s 15 goals in the tournament.

The defense was also excellent, only allowing two goals all tournament and posting two shutouts.

Up next for Montevallo is a home game against Minor on Tuesday, Feb. 18, with the game set to start at 7:15 p.m.
