ALABASTER – Scott Brakefield has announced that he is running for reelection as mayor of the city of Alabaster.

During a presentation at the Shelby County Chamber’s State of Our Communities Luncheon, Brakefield shared that he will be running for reelection as mayor after serving in the role for his first term.

“We just have a lot going on in Alabaster, and we’ve had a lot of success in the last four years,” Brakefield said. “I just really want to continue that movement and continue that momentum.”

Brakefield first became the mayor of Alabaster after winning the city’s 2020 municipal election with 2,425 votes. Brakefield previously served as the council member for Alabaster’s Ward 6 where he was elected to the role for three terms. He also served two terms as council president.

Brakefield, alongside other mayors in Alabama, had an additional year added to his term as mayor after a state law passed in 2021 in order to offset municipal elections.

With the next city election coming in August, Brakefield shared that he hopes to see several significant projects through to the end.

“We’ve got some big projects coming up on the horizon: the rec center most notably, the expansion of Interstate 65 (and) the expansion of Highway 119,” Brakefield said. “Those are the kind of projects that are near and dear to my heart that I want to be able to see through.”

Brakefield is a lifelong resident of Alabaster and is a graduate of Thompson High School. Brakefield is married to Michelle, the principal of Meadow View Elementary School.

Municipal elections in Shelby County will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

“I’m looking forward to running again and continuing to serve the city,” Brakefield said.
