NORTH SHELBY – With success still on their side after winning a state championship last season, the Oak Mountain Eagles continued their 36-game unbeaten streak in a Final Four rematch with the Huntsville Panthers.
Oak Mountain cruised to a one-sided 4-0 win on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Oak Mountain High School, making a statement in yet another tough non-area game.
Filled with a large group of seniors on their squad that remember the 3-0 win from last year, there was no expense spared in them performing exactly how they did in that game.
By halftime, the Eagles had not pulled away as the Panthers did a solid job of defending in the first half, only going into the break with the score sitting at 1-0.
However, coming out of the break, Oak Mountain was determined to light a fire on this game and not look back.
The Eagles knocked in three goals in the second half, using their potent offensive attack to drive it in and put the game to bed.
Gabe Capocci made a massive impact for Oak Mountain in this one, scoring two goals in the match to highlight this big performance. Capocci was perfect in shots on goal and gathered one assist in the process as well. His scores were his second and third of the season.
Roy Soldevilla also contributed a goal in this game, continuing to show his improvement throughout the season as he did in 2024. Soldevilla has already scored three goals on the young season, which is already on pace to beat his total from last year.
Luke Jovanovich continues to make strides as a senior leader, scoring the fourth of the goals from the Eagles’ victory. His goal was his only shot on goal out of the two he attempted, recording his fifth goal on the year.
Alexander Chaidez Cruz recorded another fantastic game in goal with another clean sheet. With the win, he improves to 3-0 in his junior season, making solid statements on the year. Oak Mountain has only given up three goals up to this point, limiting its opponents greatly.
The Eagles will continue their conquest to defend their unbeaten record in their next game on the road against the Prattville Lions at 17 Springs. The two Class 7A teams will take the field on Thursday, Feb. 20, with kick off set for 7 p.m.
