PRATTVILLE – The Oak Mountain Eagles made the trek down Interstate 65 in hopes of keeping their undefeated streak alive, and they did so emphatically with a big road victory at Prattville High School.

Oak Mountain defeated the Prattville Lions 6-1 on Thursday, Feb. 20 to improve to 8-0 on the 2025 season.

As a result, the Eagles extended their streak of matches without a loss to 37 in a row. The run dates back to the start of the 2024 season. Oak Mountain is now eight wins away from surpassing the state record which it set from 2015-17.

The Eagles started out the game with a bang on both ends of the pitch as they took the fight to the Lions in the first half of play.

Oak Mountain scored the opening goal of the match and doubled up its advantage before halftime to go up 2-0 on Prattville.

The Eagles defense held the Lions without a goal in the opening 40 minutes of the match to take the two-goal lead into the halftime break.

Prattville got on the board with a goal in the second half, but Oak Mountain’s attack continued finding opportunities to score and took advantage to increase their lead as the match went on.

The Eagles fired four goals past the Lions defense in the remaining minutes of the match to keep their multi-goal lead.

Oak Mountain’s unrelenting offensive pressure led to the 6-1 victory to keep the No. 1 team in the state undefeated to start the 2025 season.

Five different goalscorers contributed to the six goals on the night, led by Sam Collins, who had two goals to secure a brace. He was joined on the score sheet by Gabe Capocci, Michael Dennis, Ben West and Luke Jovanovich.

Four of the six goals were scored unassisted, but Roy Soldevilla and Gerardo Rodriguez contributed assists to the other two to continue their strong offensive starts to the season.

Collins led the team with six shots total and five on goal, scoring goals on 40 percent of his shots on target. Nate Taylor, Dennis and Jovanovich each had multiple shots in the win as well as they generated offense early and often on the road.

Alexander Chaidez-Cruz and Owen Wells split time in goal evenly with one half of play each. Chaidez-Cruz allowed a goal on Prattville’s lone shot on goal, but that was the lone blemish on his or Owens’ record.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 25 when they take a road trip north to Madison to face the Bob Jones Patriots, who haven’t lost this season with a 2-0-3 record. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. at Bob Jones High School.
