SPRINGVILLE – Facing an early two-goal deficit on the road, the Chelsea Hornets found determination inside of them to make a comeback and defeat the Springville Tigers.
Chelsea took down Springville 4-3 on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Springville High School, scoring four consecutive goals in a statement game to get its fourth win of the season.
Following three straight games without recording a victory, the Hornets wanted to get things going in the right direction early on, but the Tigers had other plans on their home pitch.
Springville opened the game up with a goal in the ninth minute of the game, making noise right off the bat and going up 1-0 early. Then, as the half continued on and Chelsea could not muster up an answer, the Tigers put another shot into the back of the net in the 32nd minute, going up 2-0 as the halfway point neared.
With the Hornets feeling the pressure mounting, they decided to turn up the intensity and make a move. In the 37th minute, sophomore Adeline Keith got a feed from Gabi Guillen and put the ball in for a much-needed response, cutting the score to 2-1 right before the break.
That momentum stayed with Chelsea entering the second half, and it capitalized on it immediately. In the 47th minute, Guillen back in on the action, notching another assist on the night with a pass to Stella Dasilva, who scored the equalizer and created an entirely new game.
The Hornets were not satisfied with just tying it up though. The Hornets continued to churn out great opportunity after great opportunity, and at the 61st minute, Dasilva took a shot with no direct assist and put them in the lead at 3-2.
With all things heading in the right direction for both Dasilva and Chelsea, a victory was in sight, but there was still more to be done. In the 75th minute, Soleil Dasilva took after her sister, got a touch off of a saved shot on the back post and tapped it in to give the Hornets a 4-2 advantage.
Springville did not go down without a fight however, as less than a minute later, a ball was sent flying into the back of the net, making it 4-3 with less than five minutes to play. Despite the late surge though, Chelsea held its ground and secured the victory.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 4-2-3 on the season and prepare for their second road match of the week. That game will be against the Mountain Brook Spartans and will take place on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at Mountain Brook High School.
