CLANTON – Taking the road in a Class 6A matchup and wanting to come out on top, the Helena Huskies’ boys and girls soccer teams took down the Chilton County Tigers, adding one more victory to their respective win totals.

The Helena girls defeated Chilton County 10-0, while the boys won 6-1 on Tuesday, Feb. 25, securing a sweep on the night thanks to dominant performances from both teams.

The girls started the night off with a rout, going wire to wire with big plays in their shutout.

By the halfway point of this game, the Huskies had already made a big statement and pulled away with an aggressive offensive attack, going into the break with the score sitting at 4-0.

Entering the second half however, Helena was not satisfied with letting the game sit at a four-goal differential. The Huskies knocked home six goals in the closing 40 minutes, firmly securing the road victory with ease.

Star junior Baileigh Rumage made herself known in this one, capitalizing on four goals throughout the game while recording 10 shots on goal in the process. Her performance sits her six goals in the team’s seven games played so far.

Fellow junior Henley Havens also recorded a hat trick on the night with three goals of her own to go along with her two assists. Havens was perfect in shots on goal for the night with seven, and at this point in the season, has already surpassed her goal total for her two previous seasons combined with eight.

Adding to the party, Ava Garner, Kayleigh Ames and Madeleine Blumstein each knocked in a goal, notching up the other three scores on Helena’s phenomenal offensive night.

The boys game featured much of the same action, but felt a small amount of pressure in the early going. Just over one minute into the game, the Tigers capitalized on a penalty kick that put them up 1-0.

The Huskies did not let that last for long though, and dug deep for a massive response. At the 8:5-mark, Conrad Yost put a goal in the back of the net to equalize things at 1-1.

Following the game-tying shot, Agustin Rodriquez helped Helena to take the lead at the 14:20-mark with a goal of his own, and handed the momentum off to Ryan Borden just a few moments later who knocked in another score at the 18:17-mark to put his team up 3-1.

Right before the half, the Huskies wanted to pad their lead even more, and did just that as David Diaz punched one in at 36:45, putting them up 4-1 heading into the break.

Coming out of halftime trying to solidify its win, Helena made quick work of its goals to send the game home. Austin Lewis secured a goal at the 52:28-mark in the second half to increase the score to 5-1, before Agustin Rodriquez was awarded a penalty kick at 58:46 and scored his second goal of the match, ultimately capping the game off at 6-1.

With the win, the Huskies’ girls team improves to 3-3-1 on the year and prepares to head to Thompson High School for the Warrior Invitational. Helena’s first match will be on Friday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. as it takes on the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies.

The boys improve to 2-2-1 on their 2025 campaign with the win, notching their first victory since their season opener. They will also hit the road for Thompson High School and a date at the Warrior Invitational. The Huskies kick off with a match against the host team Thompson Warriors on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
