TIS to host annual STEM Night on March 12

ALABASTER – Alabaster City Schools has invited the community to enjoy a night of STEM activities alongside several local clubs and major community partners during Thompson Intermediate School’s annual STEM Night.

Thanks to the Thompson Intermediate School Parent Teacher Leadership Academy and the TIS STEM Committee, local students and parents will be treated to a night of science, technology, engineering and math displays on Wednesday, March 12 from 6-7 p.m. at TIS.

“This event has been in the works since October, and we are very excited to invite the community to our school for this night of science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Nathan Renew, a fifth grade math teacher at TIS.

The event will showcase curriculum at TIS and activities across Alabaster City Schools, including rocketeering, robotics, eSports and science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

During the event, the following Alabaster City Schools groups will participate in TIS STEM Night:

  • The ACS Champions Craft Academy
  • Thompson High School Rocket Club
  • Thompson High School Engineering
  • Thompson High School and Thompson Middle School eSports

Additionally, the following community partners have agreed to participate in the event:

  • Alabaster Fire Department with engineering and tools
  • Alabaster Police Department, drone unit
  • McWane Science Center
  • Sloss Furnace
  • FBI: Huntsville Office
  • Southern Company
  • Specification Rubber
  • University of Montevallo Ed Tech
  • AMSTI: Region 7

According to Renew, there are additional partners that are pending final confirmation.

“Our amazing committee and faculty are excited to showcase TIS’s curriculum in science, STEAM, math, robotics and technology,” Renew said.
