CHELSEA – Looking to continue their win streak and build a solid wall of momentum as they near area play, the Chelsea Hornets saw a dominant performance from one of their own lift them over the Prattville Lions.
Chelsea took down Prattville 4-1 on Thursday, Feb. 27, seeing star junior Cooper Baumbaugh record a hat trick on the way to another home win to close out the month of February.
The Hornets got things going straight out of kick off as Daniel Teixeira slipped a pass through to Baumbaugh, who put it through to the back of the net just four minutes into the game.
With the early 1-0 lead, Chelsea wanted to keep adding on and imposing its will early. With not much of a chance to make anything happen, Baumbaugh got fancy with the ball and improvised just three minutes after his first goal to score another one, getting his squad up 2-0 in the blink of an eye.
The game continued on silently for a few moments, but before long, Baumbaugh decided to get back in the action. With another major scoring opportunity on a corner kick, Baumaugh struck it in and found Max Wever, who got it past the Lions’ goalie on a header, giving the Hornets a 3-0 advantage just 20 minutes into the contest.
As the half neared, Prattville desperately needed an answer. Digging deep, the Lions got that answer, as with 10 minutes left in the half, they scored off of a deflected free kick, cutting the score to 3-1, which was how the half ended.
Fortunately for Chelsea, its lead proved to be enough in this one, but it wanted to get another goal just for good measure. Right out of the half, it got its wish.
Just a short few minutes into the second half of the game, Baumbaugh was awarded a penalty kick, which he capitalized on in order to make the score 4-1. More notably, the score marked his first varsity hat trick and the nail in the coffin in the contest.
Prattville could not do anything more as the minutes continued to tick down at Chelsea High School, and before too long, the Hornets had secured another victory on the young season.
Baumbaugh was all over the stat sheet for Chelsea on the night, securing his three goals to go along with one assist in the dominant 4-1 win.
With the victory, the Hornets close out the month of February with a 7-1 record and prepare for their next game at home against the Fultondale Wildcats. That game is slated to be played on Monday, March 3, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Chelsea High School.
