ALABASTER – Young athletes will march down the field alongside their teammates and coaches during the city of Alabaster’s annual Parade of teams.
Alabaster Parks and Recreation will honor local spring sports athletes during the annual Parade of Teams on Saturday, April 5 at Veterans Park from 9-11 a.m. During the event, fans can sit around field one and enjoy looking on as the athletes march in through right field down behind the home plate and around third base.
“It’s a special event for the kids,” said Neal Wagner, public relations manager for the city of Alabaster. “They always look forward to coming out and enjoying the day and getting recognized and having a fun day at the park.”
The Parade of Teams will take place at 10 a.m. with spring sports games set for noon and the city’s third annual Touch-a-Truck set to take place afterward from 1-5 p.m. in the back parking lot.
“The kids will walk a route with their team and their coaches in front of the parents,” Alabaster Community Programs Manager Morgan Lawley said. “We’ll announce each team, and they’ll sit in the outfield. Then we’ll have our first pitch.”
Alabaster Mayor Scott Brakefield will throw out the first pitch of the game after delivering a few opening remarks.
“Even though we’re a little bit into the season, it’s important for these kids to feel noticed,” Lawley said. “It gives them a chance to congregate and have fun outside of school and scheduled games.”
In addition to the youth sports activities, a balloon artist will be present at the event to entertain children with a variety of differently-shaped balloons and families can also enjoy playing knockerball.
