MONTEVALLO – In their first matchup as Class 5A area foes, Indian Springs continued its perfect run through area play with wins on both the boys and girls side against the Montevallo Bulldogs.

Springs defeated the Bulldogs 9-0 in the girls game ahead of a 4-1 victory in the girls game on Thursday, March 6 at Theron Fisher Stadium in Montevallo.

Indian Springs’ girls raced ahead to an early multi-goal lead in the first half. Ashna Mehra continued her strong run in the attack by scoring the first two goals of the match. Caitlyn Yang then added another goal to make the lead 3-0.

Mia Phillips found the back of the net after that to keep the offense rolling for Springs and increase the lead to 4-0.

Kennedy Doyle went right to work early in the second half as she scored in the 42nd minute to make it a 5-0 game.

Nine minutes later, Yang secured her brace with her second goal of the evening as Indian Springs went up 6-0. Mehra then finished off her hat trick in the 61st minute as her third goal of the game was her team’s seventh of the match.

Springs would add an eighth goal before long and finished off the victory in the 79th minute with an Abigail White goal to make the lead 9-0.

Indian Springs also had a fast start in the boys game thanks to the work of Avery Biga. The senior wasted no time leaving his mark on the game as he scored just 20 seconds into the match. That left gave Springs a 1-0 lead it would take into halftime.

Then, lightning struck again in the second half as Biga scored again at the exact same mark of the half. Indian Springs’ lead grew to 2-0 as a result of his brace just 20 seconds into the second half.

Eight minutes later, Montevallo got a corner kick opportunity and capitalized to get back into the ball game. After the Bulldogs sent a cross into the box, Jesus Munoz went up and got a skillful header to put the ball in the back of the net.

The goal cut the deficit in half to 2-1 and increased the pressure on Springs to hold off their county foes after they got on the board.

Indian Springs responded in kind, using a 72nd-minute corner kick to get a goal from Sriven Kurra and restore the two-goal lead.

Springs wasn’t done though as it won a penalty kick chance in the 76th minute. Biga stepped to the spot looking to secure his hat trick, and he converted to finish off the 4-1 win.

With the wins, Indian Springs’ boys improved to 7-2-1 as they look to hold on to their No. 1 spot in the Class 5A coaches poll. The girls are now 4-2, and both teams sit at 3-0 in area play.
