PELHAM – Pelham residents were able to dust off their kites and enjoy a nice spring day at Pelham City Park on Sunday, March 2 for the Kites and Bites event hosted by Pelham Parks and Rec.

The event featured live music, face painting, a balloon artist and more entertainment for Pelham residents. Various food trucks were also present at the event. Alicia Walters, the assistant director of Pelham Parks and Rec, provided a summary of the day’s events.

“We had blue skies, a little bit of wind and chilly temperatures but that didn’t stop our community from coming out and enjoying Pelham City Park,” Walters said. “We had over 800 people attend this event.”

While there were plenty of fun and engaging opportunities for Pelham residents to engage in, Walters wanted the focus of the event to be more minimal.

“Our team loves serving the community by offering a variety of events throughout the year,” Walters said. “Three years ago, we had the idea to have a ‘simple’ event to offer folks the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the park. This is a ‘simple’ event in that we focus on flying kites. We only offer a few kids activities and food trucks. We want folks to come out, unplug and enjoy a day in the park with family and friends.”

Orbit Street Food Truck, El Compa Taco Truck, Hello Lemon and Kona Ice were the food trucks at the event. Walters gave more detail on the live music at Kites and Bites.

“Dream Catchers provided a variety of music during this event,” Walters said. “I had several community members comment how much they enjoyed the live music and how it was easy listening. A highlight for our team is watching folks be able to enjoy the event in whatever way that makes them happy; enjoy listening to live music, flying kites, walking dogs or just people watching.”

The team at Pelham Parks and Rec, according to Walters, is committed to providing Pelham residents with enriching and welcoming experiences.

“Our team strives to provide a welcoming event and atmosphere for the community,” Walters said. “We believe events like this help to build a stronger and happier community. After every event, our team evaluates how we can improve and looks forward to planning the next event.”
